GPS 2 IP Examine App

TAIP giving an error, no reply from developer for help

When using TAIP, I am getting an error. There is not mention in the documentation about this error and the developer has not returned my email.

Sockets work with Python!

Simple interface and broadcasts gps/heading data reliably. Tried the free version first to prototype, then committed to the full version. Setup - iPhone 11 with iOS 15.7.1 and hotspot wifi - Dell XPS Laptop - Python 3.8 (socket, pynmseagps) Docs on their website are useful! Only downside is the tutorial links are broken.

Great app - buy it

I am using Rose Point Coastal Explorer v4 on my boat to augment a Garmin Nav system. I can pull GPS data from the Garmin system, but I wanted to have a backup source. Along came GPS 2 IP, where I can use my iPhone as that GPS source. I’m running Win 10 on a parallels VM on my Mac, and I installed HW VSP3 to create a virtual port on that OS. Once the port is created, it appears on CE4 as a new NMEA 0183 serial device. Just click it, and the connection is made. Not just a great product though. I tried to share the app, with my full-version purchase, on my wife’s iPhone. The app shared, but it stayed in the demo mode. I wrote to Angus, and he is working this issue for me. Angus replied quickly, and he was able to explain why this happened. A fix is in work, and I am very happy with all of these results.

Trial version too short!

The trial version only gave about two seconds to test the app before showing the disabled message. Nowhere near enough time to see if it works in my application. Oh well, I’ll look elsewhere.

Works well with INavX!

I frequently recommend this app for INavX users who have INavX on a Wi-Fi only iPad. It works great in my experience.

What a rip-off.

I don’t mind paying for an App as soon as it works. Move on don’t spend your time and/or money, the developers have its website set up to not accept messages. :(

Not working

Many times tried to connect from IPhone to Ipad but can not recognize the port. Is that really working?

Doesnt work

Does not work, no documentation, emails go unanswered, support website blows up on smtp errors.

Works great!

It took me about 5 minutes to configure and that was only because I didn't configure the port settings correctly myself. Once I did it worked awesome!

Worthless

Doesn't do what it says. No way to trial it so I just wasted $7. Was a gamble but here is a warning for future lookers, look elsewhere.

Fantastic

Does what it promises, subject to iOS and hardware limitations. No complaints.

Great tool

Works perfectly! Thanks.

Can be improved. It is a great idea

the timestamp provided on the NMEA messages must be the time provided by the GPS and not the iphone time! and the timestamp must be provided with milliseconds or less if possible.

Great

Use it with pc, droid and love it!

Ok app

Works for me. Like all gps apps though you gotta mess with it awhile to get it.

Fantastic Support

Had a small issue getting grlevelx software to work with it due to the picky nature in which grlevelx reads NMEA sentences. Within a day of contacting the author he has a fix and has submitted it for approval. Author gets 5 stars because of his fantastic communication and support. Highly recommended app. Update: New version updated. Works perfectly with Grlevelx software.

Works great with PolarCom!

Most navigation apps use iPhone as a repeater/receiver. With this I can now stream NMEA data from the iPhone to other apps, works great! My cell provider assigns private IP addresses, was initially having trouble connecting. Tech Support was fantastic, taking a lot of time to help not only from their side but also interfacing to the product I was trying to connect to (PolarCom / PolarView). Got it all connected and works great! Highly recommended.

Works well with MacENC

Lets me use my iPhone GPS as the GPS for MacENC. Even works in the background. There are a few minor glitches with the NMEA produced. The UTC time is in local instead of GMT and Course is -1 when not available. None of these cause any notable problems. Highly recommended!

Performs exactly as described

This application does what I've been searching for; it serves up GPS data in various formats. Currently, I use the data with a few applications at work that don't require live data. The only feature I'd like to see added is an option for the data be served up while running in the background. Other than that, maybe a settings button rather than the info icon to make it a little bit more intuitive. Keep up the good work!
